Rockford Swedish Historical Society Kubb Tournament

The 32-team tournament was played in downtown Rockford at Ingersol Centennial Park, three blocks from the Erlander Home Museum. The 16 battlefields for the second largest tournament in the U.S. were ready at 8:30 and the forecast was on and off rain. The forecast did not deter, as all team showed up and two additional teams were able to find team to merge with. The Bristol Pirates drove three hours from eastern Wisconsin just to be on the waiting list. A surprise visit and registration by two Swedes vacationing in the area was one of the highlights of the day. The first games started at 10am. Rain soaked the pitches three times, one of which was a heavy downpour. Tournament Cinderellas Team Roberts made a valiant push to the semifinals. The had-to-be favorites of Kubbra Kai Dojo did not disappoint with their precision all the way through the championship game and won the tournament at around 6:30pm. Teams came from Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Sweden. Players ranged in age from seven to 85. The top three finishers were given Swedish dalahorses made in Rockford. Thanks to all who helped make this wonderful event happen. We can only imagine that the tournament will have many more than 32 teams next year. Tack så mycket!!
